Elderly people are a storehouse of wisdom. Whenever we spend time with them and listen to their life experiences, we always come back wiser and smarter. Today, let’s share the journey of K C Jain, a grandfather and successful entrepreneur, who established his business when he was only a young lad of 25.

(L) KC Jain grandfather of Sanyam Jain

Sanyam Jain: What do you remember about the place you were born?

KC Jain: I was born in Kasur which is now in Pakistan. I was a two-month- old baby when the Partition took place and everything that I know about that place is through hearing stories from my mother. She told me that we used to have a seven-storey house and lived in a big, joint family.

Sanyam Jain: Where did you move to after Partition?

KC Jain: We lived in Punjab for some time after Partition. We came to Delhi in 1951 and it was here that I completed my schooling.

Sanyam Jain: How did you start your business?

KC Jain: My father died when I was only 19 and I became responsible for the family, including my four siblings. This is what motivated me to start my business and today, I own a successful business of hair colour products.

Sanyam Jain: Did you find time for any hobbies? Did your work also help you shape your personality?

KC Jain: I have always loved to explore new places and their cuisine. As I used to go on business tours frequently, I got the chance to travel to every part of the country. When I used to travel by train, I used to meet many people with different personalities and backgrounds. It gave me a perspective towards different people in different situations. This also gave me the confidence to communicate freely. Due to my work, I have also been fortunate to meet successful people like the owner of ‘MDH Masale’, Vinod Khanna (actor), politicians like Harsh Vardhan, Sushma Swaraj, Ajay Maken, etc. This whole experience gave a boost to my confidence and the spirit to tackle every situation in life.

Sanyam Jain: How do you spend your time now?

KC Jain: I live in a big, joint family and am blessed with four grandkids. Now I spend a lot of time with my grandkids. I have learnt to operate the mobile phone and laptop from my grandson. I am trying to adapt to the new technology so that I can keep up with the changing times.

Sanyam Jain: What do you dream of now?

KC Jain: I wish to go on a world tour with my grandchildren and see the world through their eyes.

Sanyam Jain: What life advice would you pass along?

KC Jain: Throughout this life, I have learned never to give up and always be there when someone needs you. The only wealth in life which you earn for yourself is good relations and a kind heart.
